Viewers will learn about some of the most interesting times in history, and about many of the major events and figures. 1. Living In Medieval Europe. The Medieval Era, the age of great castles and cathedrals, was undoubtedly one of the most interesting times in history. It was an era so different from our own that students find it fascinating. The program, filmed at some of the finest medieval sites in Europe, takes students through real castles, and introduces the people who lived in them. Students discover how knights were trained, how ordinary people lived, and how the devotion of medieval Christians created the golden age of cathedral building. H: WHI.9a, WHI.9b
2. Living In Plymouth Colony. This program explores many aspects of life at the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. By viewing this program, students will find out who the Pilgrims were and what brought them to America. Students will come away knowing what the colony's houses and other building were like inside and out. They will learn all the things the colonists needed to do to get enough to eat. They will also get a glimpse of some of the many activities that filled the colonists' days at New Plymouth nearly 400 years ago. 3. Living On The American Frontier. This program uses historically accurate reenactments and archival photographs to portray life on the Western American frontier in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Students will develop an understanding of the point of view of both the pioneers and Native Americans, and understand the cause and effect of the settlement of the American West. 4. Living In The Roman Empire. There are a few stories as interesting as the story of ancient Rome, whose great civilization spanned over one thousand years, and still influences us today. The Roman civilization sprang from humble beginnings, yet came to rule most of Europe, and parts of Africa and Asia, through a steady rise to power-and then it collapsed. This program examines the history and the civilization of ancient Rome. Filmed on location in many of the countries that once made up the mighty Roman Empire, the program teaches students about the Romans' religion, pastimes, military prowess, and all-powerful government. 5. Living In Ancient Egypt. This program looks at what it was like to live in Ancient Egypt. Students will discover the amazing role religion played in the lives, and deaths, of the ancient Egyptians. Beautifully filmed on location in Egypt, this program examines various aspects of daily life during ancient times and learns the important role the Nile River played in sustaining the ordinary people who helped build this great civilization. 6. Living In Spanish Colonial America. Early American history was shaped primarily by two nations: England and Spain. Spain's role is often overlooked in spite of the fact that during the Revolutionary War, Spanish settlements could be found across most of the southern part of what is now the United States. Life in a Spanish colony was quite different from life in an English colony. In this program, colorful historical reenactments give an in depth look at what it was like to live at a Spanish mission in California over 180 years ago. H: USI.5a, USI.8b, VUS.2
7. Living On A Colonial Plantation. This program looks at the unique way of life on 18th century American plantations. The program begins in Europe searching out the roots of the plantation system. Then we visit Jamestown, Virginia, to examine the problems the first English settlers encountered establishing tobacco plantations in the wilderness. 8. Living In Ancient Greece. Filmed on location at historic sites across Greece, this twenty-minute trip takes a look at how life was lived in a Greek town over 2500 years ago.
