Students handle and analyze clothing, bone tools, pottery, and other reproduction artifacts of the Powhatan Indian culture. They learn the ways the Powhatans effectively used their environment and the day-to-day jobs in and around a Powhatan village. Classes also receive materials to make their own rope.

Find out how humans learned to fly, from the Wright Brothers' first flight to humans landing on the moon. Discover what flying really is and how things like hot air balloons, blimps, kites, aircraft, and rockets overcome gravity. Learn about the forces and principles of flight, and explore how human-designed aircraft are similar to natural flying machines like birds and bats. Blow up huge bags with just three breaths and learn how to hurl a pencil through a wooden board! (Grades 3-5)

Students will explore how engineers use math and science to build their favorite roller coasters. Find out what it takes to make scream machines when we investigate the kinds of energy and forces at work in our everyday lives. Explore force, motion and energy through interactive demonstrations of push and pull, potential and kinetic energy, and gravity and friction. Then use your physics know-how to design and construct a roller coaster, complete with bumps, rolls and loop-the-loops. (Grades 3-5)
