The Chesapeack Indians

Jamestown Settlement Guided Tour

Let our Foundation guide lead your group on a curriculum-based, inquiry-oriented tour of Jamestown Settlement. Students get involved with significant aspects of the English, Powhatan, and African cultures of the 17th-century colony at Jamestown Settlement. During tours, students handle reproduction objects, think about history through provocative questions, talk with costumed interpreters, and experience living history and gallery exhibits. Meet a Tree

Sachets and Nosegays

To teach students history through hands-on creation of herbal sachets. This workshop will teach students the historical uses of flowers and herbs by allowing the students to create a sweet-smelling mixture of dried flowers and herbs which they will tie up in a muslin sack. This program will give students a greater appreciation of the uses of herbs and flowers during the colonial and Federal periods. (Grades 2-5)

Seeds of Change

Seeds of Change

From the tiny celery seed to the 40 pound coco-de-mer, most plants grow from seeds. Seeds are also used in making everything from toothpaste, to film and candy bars. Seeds of Change introduces students to seeds and allows them to examine different seeds, crack open a seed to reveal the tiny embryo and plant a seed to take home. (Grades 1-5)
