Students handle and analyze clothing, bone tools, pottery, and other reproduction artifacts of the Powhatan Indian culture. They learn the ways the Powhatans effectively used their environment and the day-to-day jobs in and around a Powhatan village. Classes also receive materials to make their own rope.

See what happens when flowers, hot dogs, plastic, metal and more, encounter a space freeze as we simulate the unique environment of outer space. Explore the wonderful world of weather, from precipitation and wind, to sunshine and storms. See how the sun is the source of all our weather. Use weather symbols on a map to illustrate the weather outside and learn about weather safety. Observe how a thermometer measures temperature, and then choose clothing and pictures from our grab bag that match the seasons. Learn how clouds form and then match clouds to different weather conditions. Be sure to plan a visit to our exhibit, Wild, Wild Weather. (Grades Pre-K – 2)
