Through meeting adult mammals, reptiles & birds, children will investigate and understand basic needs and life processes of plants and animals. This popular program uses graphing and visuals to reinforce how living things change as they grow, need certain things to survive and how offspring are similar, but not identical to their parents. *This program is recommended for grades K-2.

  • Time Required: 45-60 mins.
  • Dates: Monday-Friday 
  • Costs: Cost of Program on Zoo Grounds: Zoo admission fee plus $2.50 per participant (80 children maximum). Each additional program $2.50 per person ($75.00 minimum). Cost of Program at your Facility: Travel fee (based on roundtrip mileage from the Zoo) plus $2.50 per participant (80 children maximum). Each additional program $2.50 per person ($75.00 minimum). Registration: You must pre-register for education programs through the Education Department. Please fill out a registration form and mail or fax it to us. You may also register online here. Lighthouse Lore

Explore the role that lighthouses have played in helping ships safely navigate the waterways. Learn what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper and how lighthouse design and technology have changed through the ages. Lighthouses from around the Chesapeake Bay and along the coastlines of the United States will be explored in this enlightening program. (Grades K-3)

Wee Weather

Explore the wonderful world of weather, from precipitation and wind, to sunshine and storms. See how the sun is the source of all our weather. Use weather symbols on a map to illustrate the weather outside and learn about weather safety. Observe how a thermometer measures temperature, and then choose clothing and pictures from our grab bag that match the seasons. Learn how clouds form and then match clouds to different weather conditions. Be sure to plan a visit to our exhibit, Wild, Wild Weather. (Grades Pre-K – 2)
