Yorktown Victory Center Sampler Tour

This tour led by a trained educator is designed to help groups get the most out of limited time at either museum by highlighting exhibits in the galleries and living history areas. Tours address the History and Social Science SOL's listed. Guides will cover the standards appropriate for your grade-level. Please let us know if specific standards should be addressed.

See How I Grow 

Through meeting adult mammals, reptiles & birds, children will investigate and understand basic needs and life processes of plants and animals. This popular program uses graphing and visuals to reinforce how living things change as they grow, need certain things to survive and how offspring are similar, but not identical to their parents. *This program is recommended for grades K-2.

From crabs and sea stars to turtles and birds, explore the rich variety of life that fills our Chesapeake Bay. Learn simple ways to protect the Bay's fragile environment.. Grade K.

What Color is a Redfish?

Students ponder fish and fishing and hear Old Reddy Drum, a delightful tale from Suzanne Tate's Nature Series. They sing about the fish's characteristics and habits; play a game showing fish behavior; and model catching and releasing fish.

Where in the Woods? Adventure Packs

Explore the Garden on your own with a Where in the Woods? These backpacks contain 10 fun, hands-on activities, maps, hand lenses, a compass, a tree identification book and a story book. Each pack contains enough material for 15 students. To reserve an Adventure Pack, please call 441-5830 ext. 338.

Adopt A Tree

Students will discover the importance of trees by adopting a tree and observing the tree over several visits throughout the year. Students will observe the tree's seasonal changes, discover the life history of a tree, and witness a wide variety of birds, insects and mammals that live in trees. (Grades K-4)

Beaver Tails 

There is something intriguing about beavers. It is easy for us to see them in terms of human activity: engineers, architects, and homemakers. Beavers, like humans, don't just live in their environment, they change it, thereby affecting all of their neighbors. Beaver activity has shaped some park environments. This activity explores their effect. (Grades K-10)
