Q. WHAT IS AN ON-LINE CLASS?
A.
This is a web-based class that runs 6 weeks. It is an asynchronous, anytime, anywhere course. All this means is that since these classes are all on-line, you can complete weekly course assignments at your own leisure, from any location. All you need is a computer with internet access and a web browser. These on-line courses require a basic knowledge of the computer to include word processing, browsing the Internet, use of electronic mail and specifically how to attach documents in email, as most of the assignments will be submitted in this way. Due to the NCLB Ed Tech Grant, these courses are free to C.I.I. Members. They are open to others, but at a cost.

Q. ARE THERE ANY OTHER OFFERINGS?
A.
Full listing can be found in the Interactive Newsletter, or you can visit www.whro.org/cii for the on-line Interactive newsletter. You can also find the classes listed by subject in the Full Course Listings

Q. AM I A C.I.I. MEMBER?
A.
Please take a look in the Interactive newsletter for the full listing of member schools/divisions, or you can visit Current C.I.I. Memership Roster. If your school or division is listed, then you are considered a C.I.I. Member and can take advantage of the NCLB Ed Tech Opportunities.

Q. WHAT'S THIS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM I'VE HEARD ABOUT?
A.
As part of the NCLB Ed Tech initiative the C.I.I. is proud to announce five “Technology Integration Certificates”-The Interdisciplinary Certificate, The Mathematics Certificate, The Science Certificate, The Social Science Certificate, and The Language Arts Certificate. All C.I.I. member schools recognize these Certificates, and in order to obtain one, a teacher must successfully complete four on-line courses from selected providers during a three-year period, as described below.

The Interdisciplinary Certificate is designed for Elementary School teachers and Special Education teachers. In order to obtain this Certificate, a teacher must successfully complete one on-line course in each of the four core subject areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science over a three-year period. Teachers who are interested in pursuing the other Certificates must successfully complete four courses in the specific core subject area, also within a three-year period. Successful completion of a course includes the creation of a technology infused lesson or unit that will be shared with teachers across the region and demonstrated technology usage in daily classroom practice.

Each year, the C.I.I. will offer dozens of qualifying courses in all subject areas and grade levels to help teachers attain these Certificates. What’s more, the courses are FREE and, because this training is to be completed outside normal contracted hours of employment, participants will receive a $25.00 professional development honorarium for each successfully completed course.

The courses are all web-based and are six weeks in length. Please see pages 8-19 in Interactive for a complete listing of qualifying courses currently available and complete the attached form to register. Individuals interested in taking these courses are strongly encouraged to attend one of the hands-on, “Introduction to On-line Learning Classes” being conducted across the region starting this summer prior to taking their first on-line class. These classes are also free and participants will receive a $25.00 professional development honorarium if the training is outside normal contracted hours of employment.
