Do you know someone who is making a significant difference in your community…a person, organization or business that is having a positive impact on the lives of those around them?
Dominion Virginia Power and WHRO are partnering to recognize our community’s unsung heroes with the third annual Community Impact Awards. We want to honor people or organizations that work at the grassroots level; people who are, generally, under-appreciated for the selfless work they willingly do to help others.
WHRO is now accepting nominations for the 2011 Community Impact Awards. We’re asking you to help us honor our unsung heroes by nominating a person or organization that is making a real difference in our community. There are five categories we want to recognize – environment, education, regionalism, health and public safety and social justice. One honoree will be chosen in each category to receive a $1,000 award for the charity of his or her choice. Winners will be recognized May 11, 2011 at an awards ceremony at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.
Categories Include:
- Education: Honoring those who inspire a love of learning with innovative opportunities and productive environments that improve academic performances for students of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Environment: Recognizing those whose vision and tireless efforts maintain and improve a healthy environment for all.
- Health and Public Safety: Recognizing those whose efforts support a safe and healthy community through their dedication to protect the public and/or improve the health and well-being for those they serve.
- Regionalism: Honoring those who exemplify a commitment to our region through cooperative or collaborative projects.
- Social Justice: Honoring those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, courage and commitment to promoting social justice issues such as diversity, equity and human rights.
