The Educational Technology Leadership Award recognizes one individual in each region whose outstanding work demonstrates a shared vision with the school division for the effective use of technology to support teaching, learning, and school administration and management. It honors those whose leadership has had a significant impact on instruction. Each region is recognized, and this year, one of the awards was given to a C.I.I. School Employee. Congratulations to Department of Technology (DOT) director Bill Johnsen on being named regional winner of the 2010 Educational Technology Leadership Award by the Virginia Department of Education. Johnsen is a veteran educator with VBCPS. He began his career with the school division as a band director at Princess Anne Junior High School, a position he held for 10 years. He then entered the administrative ranks when he was named assistant principal at Lynnhaven Junior High. After five years in the position, he became an assistant principal at Cox High for one year and then moved to central office in various capacities for two years. When Landstown Middle School opened, Johnsen was named assistant principal where he served for four years. He was then named an assessment specialist in the Department of Accountability. After four years, he was named an administrative coordinator with the Department of Technology. After a year in this position he transitioned to director of the Office of Instructional Technology, a position he has held for seven years.
