WHRO Classroom Goes Green

Ever wonder why Super Why comes on every weekday at noon? It’s because WHRO is dedicated to keeping the community “engaged, educated, entertained, and enlightened.” WHRO applies this part of our mission statement to students in preschool through high school, as well as all lifelong learners, through WHRO’s educational television programming. Each school year, WHRO airs hundreds of hours of entertaining, yet instructional programs. To help teachers steer through the many hours of programming to find what they can use in their classrooms, we publish the WHRO Classroom Guide. This Guide provides listings for WHRO’s educational programs, the dates and times that they air, as well as program descriptions and the corresponding Virginia Standards of Learning.

This year, not only is the Guide available online at www.whro.org/classroom, but it has a new layout which makes for easier navigation. K-12 programs and series are divided by subject area, with adult education, parenting and professional development programs listed in separate sections. This new format will benefit teachers who will be able to easily locate and record the proper programs to show in class. It will also assist parents, family members, day care providers, and anyone else who wishes to show quality, educational programming to the children they love.

WHRO ClassroomOver the summer WHRO staff scheduled programs and created the 2009-2010 WHRO Classroom Guide for you. There is a big change this year – the guide went green. Before school started in the fall each teacher in the area should have received in an email a PDF version of the guide. It is also available online at whro.org/classroom
