My Cyber Conference Experience With CRSTE

By Cora Lauderdale, Educator

The Capitol Region Society for Technology in Education is a nonprofit organization servicing teachers in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. CRSTE has many resources available ranging from classified ads, online classes and workshops. I had the opportunity to take part in CRSTEs first cyber conference. I have taken online courses through Virginia Tech and PBS TeacherLine that have been in asynchronous mode where I logged onto a message board to receive assignment information, then return later to post my homework. For the first time I participated in an online platform that felt more like an interactive learning environment.

From February 21st to March 6th CRSTE held professional development online. Seat hours were offered to any participant in their cyber conference. CRSTE used Elluminate Webinars to hold all their online workshops.

The Elluminate Webinar utilized an interactive smartboard with a chat box, microphone, and web cam. I was able to give a hand clap, agree or disagree with a question by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down. I was also able to participate in a survey and get the results in real time.

Using the Elluminate tool to participate in the online workshops was great. I enjoyed taking part in CRSTE’s cyber conference and I learned a lot about Web 2.0 technologies.

This summer CRSTE will offer professional development workshops. Registration begins May 1, 2010. Do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity.
